MY ZERO SUGAR SKINNY SPICY MARGARITA

Adjustments.jpg

This recipe is my tried & true, ride or die drink! The perfect tangy pick-me-up and guilt-free party starter (Thank you tequila!)

Sugar-y drinks have never been my style. I don’t like the taste or the pounding headache that comes afterwards.

I like the taste of a classic sour & tangy margarita, but without the waterlogged, throbbing head, feeling of regret after a couple.

GOOD NEWS: I GOT DOWN TO BUSINESS AND CAME UP WITH MY OWN MARGARITA RECIPE — No Added Sugar, Low Sodium, Hydrating Benefits, & Tastes Amazing!

I love a margarita when it’s done right! So let me tell you how it’s done.

Here’s what you’ll need:
(Makes 2 Margs)

  • 2 Fresh Limes

  • 4 Slices Fresh Jalapeño

  • 1/4 teaspoon Tajín Seasoning
(The low-sodium Tajin only has 190mg sodium per 1/4 teaspoon)

  • 4 ounces Blanco Tequila
(Patron, Don Julio, & Espolon are my favorite, but any blanco tequila works!)

  • 4 oz (about) Mineral Water to top off
(Topo Chico is my favorite brand because it’s super bubbly, but you can use any sparkling or mineral water)

  • 1 Shaker or Blender Bottle

DIRECTIONS:

+ Rim 2 glasses with lime & half of the Tajín seasoning

+ Fill your shaker (or blender bottle — it works!) 2/3 full with ice

+ Add 4 oz blanco tequila

+ Add juice from 2 limes (Or you can sub for 4 T of lime juice)

+ Add 2 slices of jalapeño

+ Add remaining Tajín seasoning

+Put the top on your shaker and shake like crazy for about 30 seconds

—>Next, add ice to 2 short glasses (or better yet, margarita glasses!)

—>Add 1 slice of jalapeño to each glass

—>Pour shaken mixture evenly into each glass

—>Top the glasses with @topochico or another sparkling/mineral water

—>Give the drink a quick stir to incorporate mineral water w/ shaken mixture

VOILA! The perfect margarita!

You can get creative with this recipe and sub lime juice for different citrus juices like lemon, grapefruit, or orange!

You can also make this recipe with a different type of alcohol like vodka or gin. It works great with vodka! I have yet to try with gin, but I bet a florally Bombay Sapphire would add great dimension to this recipe.

You can even make this recipe into a mocktail and nix the alcohol all together! In order to do this, double the amount of sparkling water you top off with at the end & consider using a flavored water like LaCroix for some added oomf!

The next time you’re in the mood for a savory & citrus-y cocktail without the guilt, try this recipe and let me know what you think in the comments! You won’t regret it!!

Cheers! XOXO
